SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 19, 2006 / THE STEELE FOUNDATION and Sonoma College have announced today an exclusive partnership to offer an accredited program in Homeland Response and Emergency Management (HREM). The new curriculum adopts an “all-hazards approach” to security and consequence management, and combines traditional academia with practical coursework in subjects such as critical infrastructure, security management, and personal protection. Enrollment is open to all first responders and those involved in Homeland Security issues, whether working for government agencies, private corporations, law enforcement or the military.

“The International Training Group® has earned a reputation as a leader in educating its students with realistic and practical coursework in specialized areas of Corporate and Homeland Security.” said Sonoma College CEO Charles Newman. “Sonoma College is committed to delivering a world class program to its students, and ITG® will certainly enhance the education our students will receive.”

Students are now able to earn a college degree in Homeland Response and Emergency Management by attending courses on campus or through its distant learning program which can be accessed online from anywhere in the world. A college degree is an invaluable credential in today's competitive workplace. Professional growth is critical for candidates who want to be leaders in the security and emergency management profession. The program is ideal for security professionals who are starting a new career, re-training, changing careers or upgrading their skills. In addition to offering courses to public response agencies, the HREM program provides in-depth knowledge, technical skills and education in security industry "best practices" pertaining to corporate and organizational life safety and security.

“This partnership underscores that homeland security is no longer the sole responsibility of local, state and federal agencies, but requires mutual effort between the public and private sector” said Steele’s CEO Kenn Kurtz. “Combining Steele’s International Training Group® (ITG) Program with Sonoma College’s curriculum represents a pivotal juncture and demonstrates the seriousness and resolve necessary to shore up the nation’s preparedness in safeguarding public and private critical infrastructure.”
